Teen Unmute, a student-ran journal, exists to do exactly what our name says: unmute teens.
We believe the most powerful voices are often the ones society has muted. Our mission is to amplify the voices of teenagers who feel unseen, unheard, or excluded by society's conventional standards, with a particular focus on those who struggle with certain insecurities by writing them out and owning them to dismantle the power they have over ourselves.
Through creative writing, evocative art, and meaningful expression, we give adolescents the space and platform to speak their truth. The stories that go untold are often the ones we need to hear most.

Simply, Teen Unmute's ultimate goal is to empower teenagers.
But even beyond this, we hope to break down society's devaluating standards and give a voice to the unheard. But how do we do this?
We've found that writing is a very versatile and powerful tool. Our goal is to publicize adolescent writing into organized collections, literary magazines, and parts of our website to encourage the public to speak up.
